Question 127728: 3X-7Y=14 (How to determine positive or negative solution)
Answer by JessicaGill(40) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First put the formula into slope intercept form to be able to graph a line for the equation. Slope intercept formula with m being the slope and b being the y intercept (0,b)
First add 7y to each side
Result
Now subtract 14 from each side
Result
Now divide each side by 7 to isolate the y variable.
Result
Rewritten it would be
Now we know that the slope is and the y intercept is (0,-7)
We need to graph the y intercept and then follow the slope to determine a new point to connect to graph the line. Any set of ordered pairs (x and y) coordinates that fall on that line will satisfy the equation. I am not sure what you are asking about negative and positive solutions. Any solution on the line that you graph will satisfy, negative and positive.
