: All of the examples show how to solve and graph equations with 1 variable with a number before it and one separate variable, for example:
4x-y=3 (equation1)
3x=y=4 (equation2)
I can solve those, but it confuses me when they ask me to graph problems, such as the one I'm having difficulty with.
6x+2y=16 (equation1)
-2x+y=-2 (equation2)
I solved for y in equation2 and got:
y=2x+2
It is easy to solve for y in equation2, but how do you do the same for equation1?

Add -6x to both sides:

Multiply both sides by 1/2 (or divide by 2, whichever you prefer):
