A string is stretched from corner to corner on a floor tiled with square tiles. If the floor is 28 tiles long and 35 tiles wide, over how many tiles does the string cover?

I put a ruler on a piece of graph paper and noted for every unit of length it covered 2 squares.
My scientific guess is 2*28=56 squares.
