Here's what I know:
1. Sandra works 40 regular weekly hours.
2.For working 8 additional hours at 1.5 per hour, she made $442.
3. Total hours worked 48 hours.

As in the other similar problem, if you want to solve the problem without formal algebra, you can consider that the 8 hours of overtime at time-and-a-half are worth 8*1.5=12 regular hours; so she worked the equivalent of 40+12 = 52 hours.

Then divide her wages of $442 by 52 to find that her hourly rate is $8.50.
