Question 118730: Hello,
Please help me with this problem ___ What are the points that lie on the line 2x + 3y + 5 = 0
Thanking you

Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
FIRST YOU NEED TO PUT THIS EQUATION INTO THE STANDARD LINE FORMULA:
Y=mX+b WHERE m=SLOPE & b=THE Y INTERCEPT.
2X+3Y+5=0
3Y=-2X-5
Y=-2X/3-5/3
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -4 to 4, y from -4 to 4, y = -2x/3 -5/3).
YOU NOW HAVE A SLOPE=(-2/3) & A Y INTERCEPT=(-5/3).
TO FIND ANY SET OF POINTS ON THIS LINE JUST SET X=0 & SOLVE FOR Y:
Y=-2*0-5/3
Y=-5/3
SO WE HAVE THE POINT (0,-5/3)
YOU CAN ALSO SET Y=0 AND SOLVE FOR X:
0=-2X/3-5/3
-2X/3=5/3 NOW CROSS MULTIPLY.
-6X=15
X=15/-6
X=-5/2
SO WE HAVE THE POINT (-5/2,0)
