Question 1183435: Please help me solve for time, the equation I am trying must not be correct.
A city's population is currently 22,000 and is growing by 3.4% each year. If this continues, in how many years will the town's population reach 48,000?

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
P=Pob^t general form
48000=22000*1.034^t
at t=0 P=22000
at t=1, P=22000*1.034=22748, etc.
so divide both sides by 22000
2.182=1.034 t
log both sides
0.3388=t log 1.034
divide both sides by log 1.034
23.33 years.
check with 23 years--22000(1.034^23)=47467
and with 24 years--49081.25=49081
It will be in the 24th year, not in 23 years, definitely by 24 years.
