Apply the distributive property to distribute the -1 across the parentheses in the RHS.

Collect like terms in the RHS.

Add the additive inverse of the term containing the variable in the RHS to both sides and collect like terms.

Add the additive inverse of the constant term in the LHS to both sides.

Multiply both sides by the reciprocal of the coefficient on the variable.
