.
Let X be the number of sharpeners Ram purchased.

Then the number of erasers was (20-X).

The correct cost of his purchase was 3*X + 2*(20-X) rupees.

The mistakenly calculated cost was 2X + 3*(20-X).

The difference between these two values is 10 rupees, which gives you an equation

2X + 3*(20-X) = 3x + 2*(20-X) + 10.

Simplify and solve for X:

2X + 60 - 3X = 3X + 40 - 2X + 10

60 - 40 - 10 = 3X - 2X - 2X + 3X

10 = 2X

X =  = 5.

Answer. The number of sharpeners was 5.
