Well, it looks as though salary increased $2000 per year
and was $40,000 at the beginning.

If that is true the equation is Salary = 2000x + 40000
Where x is the number of years after 2002.
---------
2008 is 6 years after 2002 so Bob's salary in 2008 would be
S(6) = 2000(6) + 40000
s(6) = 12000 + 40000
S(6) = $52,000
