An alternative to the standard algebraic solution, using logical analysis....

If all 78 tickets were children's tickets, the total sales would be 78*2 = $156.

The actual sales amount was $246.

The difference between those two amounts is $246=$156 = $90.

Each adult ticket costs $3 more than each children's ticket.

So the number of adult tickets must have been 90/3 = 30.
