These have very clear definitions.
Slope is the ratio of vertical change to horizontal change.
y-intercept is what the value is for y for x=0.

Your example slope = -1 and y-intercept 8 means that your line contains a point (0,8); and you can find other points using the given slope of -1; move down one unit and move rightward one unit; or move downward by a unit and move rightward by a unit; or move upward by 5 units and move leftward by 5 units; or other examples according to slope .
