Answer by math_helper(2461) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Write the point-slope form of the line passing through (2, -12) and perpendicular to y = 3x.
———————————————————
Point slope form is y-y1 = m(x-x1)
where (x1,y1) is a point on the line and m is the slope.
—
A line perpendicular to y=3x will have slope -1/3 because perpendicular lines of slope m, and p, have the property m*p = -1.
Point slope form is therefore: y - (-12) = -(1/3)(x - 2)
