Question 1058165: The chirping rate of a cricket depends on the temperature. A species of tree cricket chirps 160 times per minute at 79⁰F and 100 times per minute at 64⁰F. a) Create a linear function (represent it in tabular form and equation form) from the situation; b) Interpret the different properties of your function in the context of the given situation.

64-----100
79-----160
x is independent and y changes as x changes. So x is temperature.
The slope is change in y over change in x
That is 60/15
Point slope formula
y-100=4(x-64)
y-100=4x-256
y=4x-156
This would say when the temperature is 0, there are minus chirps. Typically in these problems, the intercept makes no sense and is not used.
It does say that chirping stops at x=39 degrees where y=0.
There are 4 more chirps per minute with each increase in temperature of 1 degree F.
