height-weight chart provides the following data: Height Weight
5' 5" 150 lbs
5' 7" 155 lbs
6' 1" ? Assuming a linear equation fits the data, what would be the weight for the height of a 6' 1" person?
----------------
Note:: 5" = 5/12 ft = 0.417
7" = 7/12 ft = 0.583
You have two points::(5.417,150) ; (5.583.155)
slope = (155-150)/(5.583-5.417) = 5/0.166 = 30.12
--------------------
Equation:
Form:: y = mx + b
Solve for "b"::
155 = 30.12*5.583 + b'
b = -13.16
-----
F(x) = 30.12x - 13.16
----
What would be the weight for the height of a 6' 1" person?
6'1" = 6.083'
----------
F(6.083) = 30.12*6.083 - 13.16 = 170.06 lbs
---------------
