What are our ages now?
I = my age now
S = my son's age now

I am currently 5 times as old as my son.
I = 5S

In 6 years time I will be (I+6) three (3) times as old as he
will be then (S+6).
I+6 = 3(S+6)

Substitute 5S for I

5S+6 = 3(S+6)

Solve that for S and that will be the age of my son.

Then substitute what you get for S in

I = 5S

to find my age I.
