Question 1036593: Find the equation for the line, write in standard form , through (-5,1) and (3,-2)?

Hi there,
Slope = y2 - y1/x2 - x1
Slope = -2 -1/3 -(-5)
Slope = -3/3 + 5
Slope = -3/8
Using line equation
y - b = m(x - a)
m = -3/8 (a,b) = (3,-2)
y -(-2) = -3/8(x - 3)
y + 2 = -3/8(x - 3)
y + 2 = -3/8x + 9/8
y = -3/8x + 9/8 - 16/8 (2)
y = -3/8x - 7/8
or multiply thro' by 8
8y = -3x - 7
Hope this helps :-)
