Question 1031111: The graph of a line passes through the points (0, -2) and (6, 0). What is the equation of the line?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x1 y1 x2 y2
0 -2 6 0
slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( 0 - -2 )/( 6 - 0 )
( 2 / 6 )
m= 1/3
The required line passes through both the points. So we select one point and plug it with the slope
Plug value of the slope and point ( 0 , -2 ) in
Y = m x + b
-2.00 = 1/3 * 0 + b
-2.00 = 0 + b
b= -2 + -0
b= -2
So the equation will be
Y = 1/3 x -2
