Question 101864: Solve for linear equations
3x+5=10-x
Answer by Kalmetam(43) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Lets look at this one closely...
3x+5=10-x
Obviously, the value of "x" must be found out another way..
So you have to try out some numbers..
Attempt 1:
x=5
3x+5=10-x
15+5=10-x
Ok we already see that that is totally wrong.. lets try lower
Attempt 2:
x=2
3x+5=10-x
6+5-10-x
This is STILL not correct.. the only whole number left is 1..
Attempt 3:
3x+5=10-x
3+5=10-1
Now this is too high so lets go between 1 and 2.. we know it's in that range so lets try 1.5
Attempt 4:
3x+5=10-x
4.5+5=10-x
9.5=10-1.5
That is still not it, so this is too high.. lets go between 1 and 1.5 which is 1.25
Attempt 5:
3x+5=10-x
3.75+5=10-x
8.75=10-1.25
8.75=8.75
It looks like we found the answer! x= 1.25
