Question 1009545: find the x and y intercept for the given equation: y = 12 x -10
i used a 0 in the place of each variable, y= 12(0) -10 and got y=-10
then i wanted to get x by itself, i moved it to look like 12x=-y-10
i again, substituted with 0 and got, 12x=0-10 and divided the equation by 12 to get the value of x
this resulted in x=-5/6
the question keeps coming out wrong and i am unsure of what i am doing wrong
Answer by themasterofcircuits(27) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The equation is in the form: y=mx+b
To find the x-intercept, you set y equal to 0:
0=12x-10
Add 10 to both sides:
10=12x
Divide both sides by 12:
10/12=x
Reduce:
[x=5/6]
To find y-intercept, you set x to 0:
y=12(0)-10
[y=-10]
Looks like ya just had a slight algebra error with the sign, but it seems you know how to do the problem based on your description.
Good Luck!
