Two cyclists leave towns
190mi apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One cyclist travels 10/mih faster than the other. If they meet in 5 hours, what is the rate of each cyclist?
Two cyclists leave towns 190mi apart at the same time and travel toward each other.
d= 190
One cyclist travels 10/mih faster than the other.
one cyclist speed = x
other speed = x+10
combined speed = 2x+10
If they meet in 5 hours,t =5
t=d/r
190/2x+10 =5
190 = 10x+50
140 = 10x
x =14 mph
other's speed = x+10 => = 24 mph
