Question 1001308: Word Problem:
Systems of linear equations - word problem
1. A farmer hired workers to pick apples over a three-day period. On Tuesday
the workers picked 15 quarts more than on Monday. On Wednesday they picked
3 quarts fewer than on Tuesday. If the workers picked a total of 87 quarts over
the 3-day period, how many quarts did they pick each day?

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
They picked x on Monday
x+15 on Tuesday
x+12 on Wednesday
They add to 87, units are quarts
x+x+15+x+12=87
3x+27=87
x=20 quarts Monday
35 Tuesday
32 Wednesday
They add to 87.
