Question 903458: A man built a walk of uniform width around a rectangular pool. If the area of the walk is 333 square feet and the dimensions of the pool are 5 feet by 23 feet, how wide is the walk?
Answer by ewatrrr(24785) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A(pool and walk) = 115 + 333 = 448
(5+x)(23+x) = 448
115 + 28x + x^2 = 448
x^2 + 28x - 333 = 0
(x+37)(x-9) = 0
x = 9
x/2 = 4.5, width of the uniform walk
