A boat starts at point A, moves 3 km due north, then 2 km due east, then 1 km due south, and then 4 km due east to point B. Find the distance from A to B.
This is how I worked the problem. Is it right?
C=a+b
3sq+6sq
c=9+36
c=45sq root or 6.7km

Well, you are on the right track but you made a slight mistake:
The total distance north from point A is: 3km-1km = 2km. (Not 3km)
The total distance east from point A is 2km+4km = 6km
The distance from point A to B (call this d) is:
