all i know is that in an example in my book i had to subtract 8 and 7, then add 8 and 7, and something with an x. but I'm beyond confused.

Let x represent the length of third side
Note: Sum of the Lengths of two sides of a triangle must be greater then length of the 3rd side
8 + 7 = 15
x < 15
