remember that dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal
lets convert 4 1/2 to an improper fraction.9/2
9/2*4/3=3*2=6
We also could have used decimals.
4.5/.75
2*.75=1.5
6*.75=4.5

If the question were "how many 2 foot pieces of string can be cut from a 10 foot piece of string," how would you do it? Divide 10 by 2, right? So what is the difference just because the numbers happen to be fractions?

First change the mixed fraction to an improper fraction:

Remember the rule for dividing by a fraction: "Invert and multiply"

I'll leave the arithmetic to you. It is going to be a whole lot easier to reduce to lowest terms before you multiply.
