The angle of elevation to a building in the distance is 22º. You know that the building is approximately 450 ft tall. Estimate the distance to the base of the building.
Let point A be the base of the building, B the top of the building and C the point where the angle of elevation is 22 degrees.
Then points ABC form a right triangle with side AC being the distance to the base of the building. The angle ACB is 22 degrees. The side AB is the height of the building or 450 feet.
So we have:
Tangent 22 = AB/AC = 450/AC
AC = 450*tangent 22
