Question 204148: A train leaves station M and travels west at 35km/hr. One hour later, a faster train leaves station M and also travels west on a parallel track at 40km/hr. How far from station M will the faster train catch the slower one?

Answer 204148 from Length and distance
Speed is defined as Distance per unit Time i.e S = D / T
thereore D = S X T
The differnce between the speed of the two trains is 40 - 35 = 5 km/h
The time difference is 1 hr
thus, S= 5 km/h and T = 1 hr
D = S X T
D = 5 X 1
D = 5 km
Therefore the faster train will catch the slower train in 5 km.
