Question 166793: Two cars start at the same time from the same point and travel in opposite directions. One car travels 10 mi/h faster than the other. In 3 hours they are 300 miles apart. Find the rate of each car.
Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
distance = rate * time
fast car lets call d1=(r+10)3 or 3t+30
slow car call 300-d1= r3
substitute value of d1 from 1st equation into 2nd equation
300-(3t+30)=3t---->270=6t r=45
slow car = 45 mph
fast car = 55 mph
