Question 141284: The length of a rectangle is 3 cm more than 2 times its width. If the area of the rectangle os 93cm squared, what is the length and the width?
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L=2W+3
W(2W+3)=93
2W^2+3W-93=0
USING THE QUADRATIC EQUATION: WE GET:
W=(-3+-SQRT[3^2-4*2*-93])/2*2
W=(-3+-SQT[9+744])/4
W=(-3+-[SQRT753])/4
W=(-3+-27.44)/4
W=(-3+27.44)/4
W=24.44/4
W=6.11 ANSWER FOR THE WIDTH.
L=2*6.11+3=12.22+3=15.22 ANSWER FOR THE LENGTH.
PROOF:
6.11*15.22=93
92.99~93
