Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
11.4^2=2^2+x^2
129.96=4+x^2
x62=129.96-4
x^2=125.96
x=sqrt125.96
x=11.22319
11.22319-8=3.22319 is the x value.

Using the distance formula: Solve for x.
The coordinates are (-8, 8) & (x, 6). The distance equals 11.40 Using the distance formula: Solve for x.
The coordinates are (-8, 8) & (x, 6). The distance equals 11.40
--------------------
Formula:
d = sqrt[(changein x)^2 + (change in y)^2]
11.40 = sqrt[(x+8)^2 + (11-6)^2]
11.4^2 -25 = (x+8)^2
129.96-25 = x^2+16x+64
x^2 + 16x -40.96 = 0
x = [-16 +- sqrt(16^2-4*-40.96)]/2
x = [-16 +- sqrt(419.84)]/2
x = [-16 +- 20.49]/2
Positive Solution:
x = 2.25
