You should know how to use the midpoint formula, as the other tutor did, to get the answer to the problem. However, plugging numbers into a formula doesn't teach you much.
You will learn a lot more by solving the problem using common sense; doing so should help you UNDERSTAND the midpoint formula.
Imagine you are walking from P towards R and when you reach Q you are halfway there.
In going halfway from P to R, you have gone from x=-2 to x=8, a change of 10 units; to go the other half of the way you need to go another 10 units in the x direction, which will put you at x=18.
And in going halfway from P to R, you have gone from y=3 to y=-5, a change of -8 units; to go the other half of the way you need to go another -8 units in the y direction, which will put you at y=-13.
So the end of your journey is at (18,-13).
ANSWER: R is (18,-13)
