.
Let w be the width, in meters;

then the length is (2w-5) meters, according to the condition.

Write the area equation

    w*(2w-5) = 52 m^2.

From the equation,

    2w^2 - 5w - 52 = 0.

Use the quadratic formula

     =  =  = .

You need the positive root  w =  = 6.5 m.

ANSWER. The width is 6.5 meters; the length is 2*6.5 - 5 = 8 meters.

CHECK.   6.5*8 = 52 m^2.    ! Correct !

Solved.
