as fast as she walked and covered 12 miles altogether,
then how fast did she walk?

DISTANCE=RATE*TIME
2X+.5*2X=12
2X+X=12
3X=12
X=12/3
X=4 MILES PER HOUR WAS HER WALKING PACE.
