wide. It has a frame all round it
which is 6 inches (0.5 feet) wide.
What is the area of the frame?

If the frame is .5 ft. wide, then the width of the picture plus frame is 8+2(.5)=9 ft. Same goes for the length. So we have, as area:
(9*9)-(8*8)=17 sq.ft. as the area of the frame. ☺☺☺☺
