If a line is parallel to a line that is in the form y=k, with k a constant, that latter line will be in the same form. The y value is always constant in that function, therefore, if it passes through the point (2, -7), it has to have the same y value for that point, namely, -7. Therefore, our line is given by .
The same argument applies here, but for the x value instead. If it has to cross through the point (-1, 2), and the x values are constant, it must have the same x value of that function of -1. As such, our function is
