Question 457858: I'm trying to solve the inequality:
-3 < x < 0 so that a < 1/(x+4) < b
The answer in the back of the book is: a = 1/4 and b = 1
but, when I work it, I get the opposite.
Here's what I am doing:
-3 < x < 0
-3+4 < x+4 < 0+4
1 < x+4 < 4
1/1 < 1/(x+4) < 1/4
1 < 1/(x+4)< 1/4

a = 1 b = 1/4
Any insight would be appreciated.
Bill
