Question 67691: There are three angles in a triangle. lets call them A, B, C. One property of triangles is that the sum of the interior angles is always 180,. so our firs trelatonship is: A + B + C = 180
iN THE DIAGRAM, LETS SAY THAT ANGLE a HAS A VALUE OF X ANGLE "B HAS A VALUE OF (X-8) AND ANGLE C is our unknown. So we can bow sustitute some value in our relationship. x + ( x + 8) + C =180
Rearranging to isolate C, we get 180 - x - ( x+ 8) = c
This equation doesn't put any limits on what C can be , but the problem does. It tells us that what ever value we use for X, the equation must work out so that C is no larger than 30.
This constraint creates an inequality:
c < 30
-
We now have two expressions for the same thing - the value of the angle C. We can set them equal to each other. So our final expression is:

Question 77794: A regular tank can be filled with water by two pipes (one larger, one smaller) in 11 1/9 mins. If the larger pipe alone takes 5 mins less to fill the tank than the smaller pipe, find the time each pipe takes to fill the tank?
p/s: I know the answer can be evaluated uses this equation,
1/x + 1/(x-5) = 1/(11 1/9)
x (smaller tank) = Ans, x-5 (larger tank) = Ans
where x is the amount of time required for the smaller tank alone to fill the tank.
BUT,
1)WHY do you use the reciprocal of each to derive at the equation?
2)What is the concept behind the equation here? Has it got to do with the definition of reciprocals? or do we solve it using ratio?
