Question 972253: Please solve it.
(2y+1/5) -(3y-2/10 )+(y/2)
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the answer is (-5y+4)/10
see the attached worksheet.
step 1 is the original equation.
in step 2 we multiply everything by 10 and remove the parentheses.
in step 3 we combine like terms.
in step 4 we divide everything by 10.
we are left with (-5y+4)/10
what i did was multiply everything by 10/10 which is the same as multiplying everything by 1.
i first multiplied everything by 10.
after i was done wtih that operation, i then divided everything by 10.
the end result was that i multiplied everything by 10/10.
the whole idea was to get everything under the common denominator of 10.
i check the answer and it's good.
you can check yourself by replacing y with any random value.
evaluate the original expression using that value of y and evalutate the final expression using that value of y and you should get the same answer.
