Question 886251: Here is my question. I KNOW the first formula, but I want to REVERSE it.
Width W 28
length L 40
weight Wt 50
factor 1 F1 2
factor 2 F2 950
Answer Y

Solving for Y
(W x L x Wt x F1) / F2 = Y
so....

Solution
(28 x 40 x 50 x 2) / 950 =118

Now I want to solve it when I don't know Wt (curretnly holding the place as "50")

(28 x 40 x Y x 2)/ 950 =118

How do I set up/reverse the formula?

Thank you!

Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(28 x 40 x Y x 2)/ 950 = 118
multiply all the numbers in the parenthesis
2240Y / 950 = 118
multiply both sides of the = by 950
2240Y = 112100
divide both sides of = by 2240
Y = 50.04
weight is 50

Your formula is:
You can solve the equation for Wt, then plug in values for W, L, , , and Y to determine the value of Wt, OR
You can just substitute all values for all known variables to determine the value of the unknown variable.
Note that in your attempt to determine the value of Wt, you would not get: , but instead.
This will give you the value of Wt, but since Y was actually ROUNDED to 118, you would not get a value of exactly 50
for Wt.
