In this case reciprocal is the better term. Multiplicative inverse is also OK.
I would avoid "inverse reciprocal".
Let the number be x.
x+2(1/x)=3
x + 2/x = 3
x^2+2=3x multiply each side by x.
x^2-3x+2=0
(x-2)(x-1)=0
x=2, x=1
