Let the number of oranges be x.
Then number of pears is 3x.
Let the number of children in the group be "y".
EQUATION:
5y=x
8y=3x-21
Solve for x and y:
8y=3(5y)-21
7y=21
y=3 (number of children is 3)
x=5y=5(3)=15 (number of oranges)
3x=15 (number of pears)
