Problem 1. 8m = 5m + 12
First you have to subtract 5 from each side
that will give you 3m = 12
Then you divide 3 from each side that will give you
m = 4

Problem 2. 9(m + 2) = -6( m + 7)
First you have to apply the distributive property
that will give you 9m + 18 = -6m + -42
then you have to add 6m to both sides that will give you
15m + 18 = -42
then you have to subtract 18 from both sides
that will give you
15m = -60
then you divide by 15 on both sides that will give you
m = -4
