Start with the given equation.

Subtract 18 from both sides.

Combine like terms.

Multiply both sides by 'w'

Divide both sides by 6 to isolate 'w'.

Reduce

So the solution is

The idea is to isolate the unknown w to one side of the equation--doesn't matter which side.
.
8 + 18/w = 14
Subtracting 8 from both sides:
18/w = 6
Multiply both sides by w:
w(18/w) = w(6)
18 = 6w
Finally divide both sides by 6:
3 = w
