(y+5) = 5/2y I'm having trouble simplifying and solving for y
---
If that "2y" is in the denominator you get a quadratic:
2y(y+5) = 5
2y^2 + 10y - 5 = 0
Use the quadratic formula to get:
y = [-10 +- sqrt(100 - 4*2*-5)]/4
y = [-10 +- sqrt(140)]/4
y = [-10 +- 2sqrt(35)]/4
---
y = (-2/5) + (1/2)sqrt(35) or y = (-2/5) - (1/2)sqrt(35)
