This a question for solving electrical resistance in a parallel circuit. The formula is 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 +1/R3 + 1/Rn.
Rt represents total resistance the other fractions are separate branch resistances.
1/Rt= 1/12 + 1/15 + 1/5

Just add the fractions like any other fractions. Find the lowest common denominator, convert each of the three fractions, then add the numerators.

Multiply EVERY term by the LCD to clear out the fractions.
Multiply and simplify
Combine like terms.
Divide both sides by 21 to isolate .
Rearrange the equation.
Reduce
Approximate the right side
So the total resistance is approximately 2.8571 ohms (assuming that's the unit you're working with).
