Question 147824: I have been working on this problem for a while and have gotten several different answers.
0.4x + 3 ≤ 0.8x – 6
I believe solving is easier if I get rid of the decimals by multiplying by 10. Do I multiply every term by 10 or only the terms with decimals?
0.4x + 3 ≤ 0.8x – 6
40x + 30 ≤ 80x – 60
Subtract 80x from both sides
-80x + 40x + 3 ≤ - 60
Subtract 30 from both sides
-80x + 40 x ≤ -60 – 30
-40x ≤ -90
Flip the inequality sign around because I am dividing by a negative number
-40x ≥ -90
x = -90 divided by -40
or 2.25
I this correct?
Thank you very much

Question 147976: I am trying to find the solution to the inequality of
6 > - 3x + 5 or 9 £ - 5x + 2
Add 3x to both sides
3x + 6 > 5
Subtract 6 from both sides
3x > -1
X = - 1/3
Next equation
9 £ - 5x + 2
Add 5x to both sides
5x + 9 £ 2
Subtract 9 from both sides
5x £ -7
X = -7/5
Is the solution to the problem
( - ¥, -7/5] È ( -1/3, ¥)
Because - 7/5 is included so it gets a square bracket but -1/3 gets a parentheses because it is not included and the infinite symbol always gets a parentheses.
Am I getting this correct or am I way off?
Thank you for all your time and help with this as I am trying to prepare for a test.

Question 149496: How do you know if a value is a solution for an inequality? How is this different from determining if a value is a solution to an equation? If you replace the equal sign of an equation and put an inequality sign in its place, is there ever a time when the same value will be a solution to both the equation and inequality?

Question 149730: The original question was:
"Why does the inequality sign change when both sides are multiplied or divided by a negative number? Does this happen with equations?
Answer: "This does not happen with equations because if you flip the equals sign, its still an equals sign"
NEW QUESTION: This statement is true. However, let's build on it a little more. Why is this statement true?
