QUESTION:
The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale rates a storm intensity by its sustained wind speed. By the time a hurricane reached the coast its sustained winds had decreased by 25 mi/hr, so it was down graded to a category 3 hurricane. Determine the possible sustained wind speeds of the hurricane at its peak.
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if it's a category 3, then it's sustained wind speed are between 111 and 130 inclusive.
111 + 25 = 136
130 + 25 = 155
it's sustained wind speeds before it was downgraded were between 136 and 155 inclusive.
that make it a category 4 before it was downgraded because 136 >= 131 and 155 <= 155.
