Question 95133: I am very sorry this is not from a text book. I am working on compound inequalities: 3y+5>_2y+1>y-1
(that's the best I could come up with for 'greater than or equal to')
I subtracted the 1 in the middle from both sides and got
3y+4>_2y>y-2
Then I subtracted the y on the right side from both sides and got
2y+4>_y>-2
And now I am stuck, it is my understanding that the variable must be isolated in between the inequality signs, but I don't know how to do that from here. Please help me.

With that problem you would have to break the problem
up into two parts:
1st: 3y+5>=2y+1
y>=-4
2nd: 2y+1>y-1
y>-2
-----------------
In order to meet both conditions y must be > -2
So y>-2 is the solution.
