Question 947697: If 5x-3< or =5+3x
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5x-3 <= 5+3x
add 3 to both sides of the equation and subtract 3x from both sides of the equation to get:
5x - 3x <= 5 + 3
combine like terms to get :
2x <= 8
divide both sides of the equation by 2 to get:
x <= 4
that's your solution.
confirm by replacing x in the original equation by 4, something smaller than 4, and something bigger than 4, to see if the original statement holds true.
for example:
when x = 0 which is < 4, the equation becomes -3 <= 5 which is true, as it should be.
when x = 10 > 4, the equation becomes 27 <= 35 which is false, as it should be.
etc.
when x = 4, the equation becomes 17 <= 17 which is true, as it should be.
