Question 937881: Not sure if this is the right section, question is on inequalities (don't know what trichotomy is).
Diagram shows a right angled triangle with short side of 3m, long side of x m, and another unknown hypotenuse value with no letter. Question:
Find the range of values of x, x E Z, so that the perimeter of the triangle is between 8m and 12m.
I've been doing okay up to now, but this question is annoying me as it has 2 unknowns.
I've tried this much, but it's getting me nowhere:
x^2 + 3^2 = y^2
8 < or = to x+y+3 > or = to 12.
Thanks.
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You are simply missing another either equation or inequality statement----------- the PERIMETER.
Using h for hypotenuse instead of y,
you have and and .
You should be able to work well with those now.
